Meme, Anyone?

I got 'tagged" recently by my buddy Grizzly Brears, one of my favorite bloggers.
He posted in his blog about this "meme" that's going around the blogosphere.

This is how it works. He asked me 5 questions (that someone had asked him):

5 Questions about the ONLINE YOU…

1. How long have you been blogging?
2. What inspired you to start a blog and who are your mentors?
3. Are You trying to make money online, or just doing it for fun?
4. Tell me 3 things you LOVE about being online.
5. Tell me 3 things you STRUGGLE with in the online world.

I am supposed to answer these questions on MY blog and then post a comment back on Grizzly Brear's blog. Then he will come by and see my responses to his questions. I, in turn am supposed to tag a few other bloggers and invite them to join in by answering these questions and tagging a few other bloggers.

Can you see where this is going? This is a nice way of sending link love to the people I tag.
Each one will get a link from me just like I've received one from Grizzly.

Simple to play - I want to learn about my blogging buddies, so simply tell me more about you and your blog. In the post that you create, reference this post and then tag 5 of your blogging friends. If you don’t know who to tag, why not tag a blog that interests you as a way of getting some link love and finding more about that blog.

So, here are my answers to the questions:

1. How long have you been blogging?

I started blogging in August 2006.

2. What inspired you to start a blog and who are your mentors?

The first real "how to make money" book I read was Holly Mann's Honest Riches. (See my review here). In the book she described how easy is to set up a blog on blogger and promote affiliate products. So, I figured, "What the heck" and I set up my first Blogger blog. I soon really got into it and started to enjoy communicating with the IM community. It was especially exciting when I started to see traffic coming to the blog!

My mentors, hmmm, I would have to say that Dr. Mani is number one in my book. I blogged about him in a recent post. He is unbelievably helpful to everyone. Craig Desorcy from www.Wehelpnewbies.com is also a mentor of mine.

Roger Zimmerman from www.pickaguru.com was very helpful to me when I was just starting out.

3. Are You trying to make money online, or just doing it for fun?

I am in this for the money. I do enjoy blogging, especially about the topics that really interest me - health, weight loss etc., but ultimately it's about the money.

4. Tell me 3 things you LOVE about being online.

I love meeting really nice people from all over the world. Spending time on forums is fun for me.

I love creating stuff. It's exciting to have an idea and go through the stages of bringing it to life.

I love the money.

And, I LOVE not going in to my job anymore!

5. Tell me 3 things you STRUGGLE with in the online world.

I struggle with all the technical aspects. I HATE technical stuff.
I struggle having to keep up with all the new technologies. I hate having to buy every new ebook just to know what's flying.

I struggle with not letting my online hours encroach on my family life. I have 5 kids and not too much computer time. Sigh.

Now, lets see who I should tag.

1. Dr. Mani's Money, Power and Wisdom blog. Dr. Mani is a pediatric heart surgeon who is one of the nicest and most productive infopreneurs online. Great blog, full of original stuff and lots on making money online.

2. Ryan Ambrose, from Financial Self Reliance, has a nice, upbeat blog for people who are interested in reading "thoughts from a student of online home business". http://www.financial-self-reliance.net/fsrblog/index.php/

3. DotmySpot is a good blog by someone who is making nice money from blogging. All the financial information about income is right there for everyone to see. Impressive.

4. Internet Bazaar Tips - Make Money Blogging. Informative blog, updated very frequently and loaded with information.

5. Grizzly Brear's Making Money Online for Beginners - I am tagging Grizzly back because his blog really is one of my favorites!!

Holly Mann - Not a Scam!!

In a previous post I wrote a review of Holly Mann's book Honest Riches and I gave it a thumbs up. Today, Holly emailed me an updated version of her book- Honest Riches 2007 - and I feel compelled to write about it here.

Holly has done a wonderful job of revamping her book. It is now 95 pages long and is just loaded with valuable content. The spacing is also pretty tight in the book and there is alot of content on each page (sometimes you get ebooks where the authors space them out to make them seem longer). I first purchased Holly's book about 6 months ago and her book is what gave me my start on the web. At the time I felt that it was a really worthwhile acquisition. Well, now the book is even better!

Now the book starts off with a chapter on how to start a business on the internet, where she talks about self employment and tax issues. This is important information for anyone starting their own business.

She's got a full chapter all about affiliate marketing - a really nice, robust chapter which outlines the differences between Affiliate Networks vs. Independent Affiliate Programs. She also discusses programs for people outside the U.S. and how to research affiliate programs.

Next is a chapter on how to research: brainstorming ideas, seasonal opportunities, mass media and niche finding tools.

How to make money without a website gets its own fat chapter which includes forum marketing, writing product reviews and lots more.

Wesite design, content management systems (with lots of attention to Joomla), blog websites, turnkey websites, a Free Website Offer and tons of other information are in the next chapter.

A chapter is devoted to Open Source Ideas ( I never read about this anywhere else!). She talks about how she used to purchase all kinds of specialty software until she discovered places on the web to get it all for free!

Adsense has a chapter; SEO gets alot of attention from Holly in this book as does Pay Per Click advertising. There's a chapter on list building, creating your own e-book and a bonus section with Ebay advertising snippets and dropshipping tips.

Her style of writing is such that you feel that you are sitting across the table from a good friend who is "spilling their guts" about how to go about making a living on the internet. You can tell that Holly has a wealth of experience doing internet marketing (and by the way, I think that most of what she does is in niche marketing and not internet marketing). She knows lots of tips and techniques and happily shares them with her readers. I do feel that there is a bit missing of the "how" to do certain things for beginners. But I feel that it's not so terrible, because she's very clear on the "what" to do.

In general, I must add that every time I have ever sent Holly an email I have received a courteous and prompt response from her. I can honestly say that I bought this book because reading her sales page inspired trust in me. Now that I am her customer I can attest to the fact that I am a very, very happy customer and recommend her book, from the bottom of my heart, to any newbie and more advanced internet marketer.

The price has gone up since the last version but she is giving so much more now that I sincerely feel that it's worth the price. Maybe this review is too positive. I dunno. All I know is that I can't believe the value she gives for the price she charges. Holly Mann is one of the "good guys"!!!

Honest Riches 2007

p.s. I welcome comments from anyone who read Holly's book. Did you find it as helpful as I did?
